According to Tesla’s 2016 Proxy Statement, Tesla Chief Executive Officer Elon Musk is paid a salary of roughly $35,000 which is surprisingly small compared to other employees, such as the Chief Technology Officer and the Chief Financial Officer. The CTO is paid a salary of $249,600 and CFO is paid a respective salary of $338,000. This difference in pay stands out considerably being that Musk holds the highest position as Tesla’s CEO and founder. However, taking a closer look at the bonuses and awards granted to certain Tesla employees, including Elon Musk, it is clear that Musk has still received more than double the pay of anyone else at Tesla. Through what is listed as an “Option Award” in Tesla’s 2016 Proxy Statement, Musk was granted $78,110,730 in 2012.
